The effects of cervical spinal cord injury on patients activities of daily living and quality of life

Abstract
Object: This study has been conducted to analyze the effects of cervical spinal cord injury on patients activities of daily living and quality of life.

Method: Research was conducted on 65 patients from June, 2010 until September, 2010. A survey was conducted to determine general characteristics and a Korean translated SCIM¥² and WHOQOL-BREF were used for final analysis.

Result: In the case of patients with complete injury, their final score in activities of daily living showed a strong correlation to the quality of life, in all modules. In the case of incomplete injury, married status, monthly income, month past rehabilitation, month past injury were included as additional variables to determine that their final score in activities of daily living showed a strong correlation to the quality of life.

Conclusion: For patients with cervical spinal cord injury, according to the extent of injury; physical, mental, social aspects of life should be determined along with their activities of daily life as factors influencing their quality of life.
